How do gateway computers rate

This, of course, overlooks the elephant in the room—the EVOO connection. And "connection" probably isn't even a strong-enough word—both EVOO- and Gateway-branded laptops come from the same supplier to the same receiver EVOO itself in the same shipments. We've heard people say decent things about EVOO's higher-end laptops, so it's possible that some of these will turn out to be a good deal. Gateway is offering two Android tablets in this line—8-inch and inch—and I asked for the latter.

But after a few days of use, I wanted to use this thing as a cutting board instead—it would be more reliable. On the occasions I could get Windows to start, I found it almost unusable. Basic productivity is the realistic expectation here, and this laptop does have some strong points. For those who like to tinker, this laptop is delightfully upgradeable. That means you always have to use the included barrel charger, which charges slowly and comes with a space-hogging power adapter. It has thick bezels surrounding its matte display. The chassis will creak and crunch under your hands from the moment you pick it up. Display quality is usually the first thing to go in budget laptops. And that's essentially what Gateway is now -- a familiar brand used to sell affordable laptops and tablets. So, if you're asking "Do they still make Gateway laptops? Both can be bolstered inexpensively from Walmart at purchase, by the way. Late last year, the Gateway brand was revived for a new lineup of laptops sold exclusively through Walmart. Those models were recently updated with 11th-gen Intel processors.

In the case of this inch model, the processor went from a Core iG1 to an iG7. I didn't test the 10th-gen model, but we've tested many other 10th-gen laptops and the new 11th-gen chips are faster and better on battery life.

When it comes to the actual performance of the SSD and memory, though, you're not getting the best of the best to back up that Core i5 processor. If you compare this Gateway's performance against a pricier similarly configured laptop, it might be a little pokier. Then again, this Gateway handled basics just fine and overall performed well. Plus, the battery lasted a couple minutes shy of 10 hours on our streaming video test, which is right in line with what Gateway claims.
