Should i join aopa
Plus I have auto renew and I am to lazy to cancel it Now the question should be should you join EAA for the same reason. Joined: May 11, Messages: Display name: Adios! CT Arrow , Jun 11, I think some folks on here confuse the advocacy side of the house with the development side of the organization.
The development folks sole job is to raise money. Advertising, sponsorships, product alliances, etc. For every product you poo-poo, there's another member out there ready to jump on it. Some of it is annoying, some not. Their mission is to provide the revenue that allows the organization to do their core work. All of the advocacy folks I've interacted with are very dedicated.
At my job at a Federal Agency many of you know and love dearly, I work with several AOPA alumni who generally have good things to say about their former employer.
Most folks left the organization because the Feds pay better, while others left for commuting reasons. When AOPA sends a letter, it gets answered. That's no secret. Brad Z , Jun 11, I'm more than willing to pay to have a voice in Washington, and I like Flight Training magazine. Bob Gardner member since Bob Noel , Jun 11, Shop around for your insurance.
AOPA represents us in Washington, once you become a member, you will not be allowed to forget that. We do however, need that representation, so joining is a good thing. If you are joining to see what you can get out of AOPA in the terms of products and services, then your wasting your money. John Baker , Jun 11, I would absolutely Join.
As Ron said there are certainly those with issues but with a membership that large I'd expect that. My experience is that without AOPA we'd all be in a heap of trouble. They serve an important function to the aviation community.
AdamZ , Jun 11, I'm happy to pay full price. It's a steal for what you are going to pay. Jay Honeck , Jun 11, SkyHog , Jun 11, You must log in or sign up to reply here. Show Ignored Content. I hear they let you use the company plane. I'll be wearing my year pin. Heck, they noticed it was 30 years since I joined, and sent me a nice winged pin to commemorate it with!
I'm proud that for the last few years that we have promoted AOPA membership at the DreamFleet web site, and will continue to do so. Worth it? That's a question that need not be asked! I could not find the photo of me behind Phil's desk, but I did find this one of my dear friend and pilot, Bruno, sitting behind Phil's desk. Actually, it is a Combination of several things that attract the chickies.
Then the chicks always hit on you Be right back, wife is calling. Yes of course I'm writing about you Umm ok, only my wife of 17 years hits on me in those instances, but a man can dream can't he? In regards to the AOPA membership. I get a hat, a sticker, another yellow 6 inch ruler, Pilot Magazine, and I spring for the Flight Training Magazine as well.
You also get to fly a sim commander as part of your membership dues. I hear they also have forums where we can talk politics, too. Many times a conversation starts by them "Quacking" "Do you fly"?? I reply usually,"Sure wanna see my plane? Because ,invariably they do, I cannot believe it. Of course I gotta a wife too.
But after married for 51yrs,she figures Hey,no big deal. She forgets, however, I still fly. Almost as good as my flying helmet, white scarf, and pilot glasses. That works every time, especially in the Super market checkout line.

I joined ages ago: The quality of their mag has improved immensely and the recent issue documented a number of CAA court cases in which they have assisted members. And also documented their robust reply to someone, who having got the dreaded CAA summons then tried to join AOPA so they would take up his case. I have also got cheap hotels and car hire abroad using their 'Aircrew' card. Its been discussed ad nauseam that's Latin Rupert before.

By 2Donkeys - Fri Dec 17, Whilst I agree that it is good to be part of an aviation pressure group, I got little sense that AOPA was particularly interested in representing nor indeed in soliciting the views of its membership.
It came across as little more than a clique based around a small number of long-serving individuals. This lack of interest in the views of the membership is evidenced by their choice of timing and venue for their AGM - central London on a working day. It costs too much and it does too little.
IFR Flying Videos. By Dave Phillips - Fri Dec 17, Difficult question! AOPA should be a voice to be reckoned with. However, I share 2D's sentiments that it may not accurately represent the views of it's membership.
Dave Phillips Rank: Nice wife To me that's representing its membership. I declare open season on redundant apostrophes He-haw he-haw he -haw including French apostrophes Safe and grammatical flying. By Flyingfemme - Fri Dec 17, We were corporate members for a few years but got noting out of it.
I intend to live forever Same here. Whilst I appreciate that it gets its clout from the size of the market, and its consquent membership numbers, there can be no doubt that the leadership and ethos of US-AOPA is streets ahead of its UK counterpart. Because of its rather poor image, there is little doubt that UK-AOPA fails to maximise on what little market there is for a pilots' association in the UK. By SteveC - Fri Dec 17,
